Overview of Dual Enrollment at GCC

Overview:

Ribet Academy has added the opinion for its students to take classes from Glendale Community College on campus.  For many years Ribet has allowed students in 11th and 12th grade to go off campus to take GCC classes.  This was for the advanced students who knew what University they would be going to and that the classes would be accepted as credit there.  This was difficult to schedule and many students were blocked from taking core classes for GCC (US History, Biology etc.) at the time.  This prevented them from finishing the 60 units needed for a UC transfer.

The process has changed and it is much simpler to set up.  Now it will allow 11th and 12th grade students to take a half day schedule of High school and half day schedule of GCC classes ON CAMPUS at Ribet Academy.  It also means that our current 11th grade students can finish GCC (which is 2 years of University) while still in High School and transfer to a UC comfortably.  We will cut their schedule in half to do this (ending at 12 noon) so they can start the GCC classes on time after lunch.  The GCC classes for the UC Transfer are approved by the UC system and which classes to take are informed to the student via a counselor from GCC.  An alternate list of classes is also offered if a student wants to go to USC.

Process of registering at GCC while at Ribet Academy:

1. You will go to this website link:
2. Complete the first 2 steps, "Apply to GCC" and "Submit Annual Digital form"
3. When you fill out the Annual Digital Form you will state the High School Counselor name and leave his email address.
4. An automated email will go to him letting him know your name and that you are stating that you go to Ribet Academy and will be doing the GCC classes at the same time. We will then sign the Ribet portion of the form within 24 hours.
5. Contact the GCC Counselors to give you the recommendation of classes that you need to take, this can only be done after Ribet signs the form.  Make sure you state which University you want to go to after so they give you the GCC classes that you can transfer. Here is the link to contact them:
6. Continue with Steps (from the website link: https://www.glendale.edu/students/student-services/sos-outreach/high-school ) to register the classes.
7. After everything is completed the student must forward your schedule to the principal.  We want to make sure that no students registered for a college class at the same time as their required high school class.  Do not register for classes in the first half of the day because that is where core class will be put that are needed to graduate for 11th and 12th grade students.
